Did beloved Brooklyn DIY music space 285 Kent just show up for rent on Craig’s List?

We’ll admit we don’t get down to our hometown of New York as much as we used to, but this Craig’s List ad posted earlier today or late yesterday certainly caught our attention. It’s for a 4,000-square-foot space on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg — which just happens to be the same space that housed beloved DIY music venue 285 Kent.

The community-minded 285 Kent closed earlier this month with a host of live performances, including Fucked Up, DIIV, White Lung, and others.

The space is available for $8,000 a month, great for “office space” and “pop-ups,” as suggested by the listing agent. The ad doesn’t give any clues to its previous use, and we’re told the photo in the ad is more than four years old.

Here’s the full ad if you hate click-throughs:

converted 1930’s-era Internationalist-style dry goods warehouse

The room is framed by 2 huge I-beam industrial columns along each of the walls, and arch vaults. The beams frame the walls (not in the center of the space) and create a huge, column-free open area. It’s a very industrially photogenic room.

Has windows and a large amount or retail frontage direct to Kent Ave.

Perfect for any kind of commercial use, pop-up store, architect’s studio, a photographer’s studio, etc… or an amazingly well-located loft space.

Quiet block by day, and you can make all the noise in the world at night if you desire – no residential neighbors.

Two toilets + hand washing sink.

Two means of egress.

Full HVAC system! Gas heat (at no charge) and super powerful, energy efficient split-level 10-ton air conditioner – you will never be cold in the winter nor hot in the summer.

prime central Williamsburg – Southside – very near the new Two Trees Domino Sugar Factory development

Maybe Kitty Pryde can help out…
