Listen to the new single from 28 Degrees Taurus, just in time for Deep Heaven Now 8

The 8th installment of the venerable Deep Heaven Now is coming up next weekend, and to celebrate, the organizers of the ambient/psych/noise music festival, 28 Degrees Taurus, have unexpectedly released some new material.

Deep Heaven Now 8 goes down October 19 and 20 at Precinct and PAs Lounge in Somerville’s Union Square, and features its usual mix of out-of-towners and Boston bands.

On the home team this time around are Guillermo Sexo, Moontowers, Sleep Studies, Bedroom Eyes, and Vanya Records’ own Confessions; Boston faves Ghost Modern and Underwater Bear Ballet, are also on the bill, and the away card is highlighted by Minnesota’s Is/Is (Minnesota) and a trio of New York acts: the Stargazer Lilies, Dead Leaf Echo, and Heaven. There are 24 participating bands in total.

Capping off the 14-band Night 1 slate is 28 Degrees Taurus — don’t call it a headlining set — and we’re excited to have some new music from the shoegaze veterans. The band has teetered on the brink of extinction for a few years now, but the good ship appears to be finally righted and their collective headspace appears healthy.

“We took the summer off — to write, record, regroup, to heal war wounds of the past year, and came up with 16 new songs,” 28DT ringleader and DHN fest organizer Jinsen Liu tells Vanyaland. “It’s definitely enough for a new record; not sure when will be out, or how we’re going to organize it, but we’ll put out a series of singles for now.

Liu added that when the last Deep Heaven wrapped up, it looked like the end, not only for the fest but for his band.

“When DHN7 ended we both thought there was a better than average chance this was all over,” he says of he and his 28 DT bandmates. “But we came out of it with material that’s better than anything. We just needed a break.”

Check out the trippy new single, titled “from part to part,” below, as well as DHN’s full lineup after the jump.
