Kasabian side project Black Onassis enlist Ben Gautrey of Cooper Temple Clause on new single

It’s been six years since the Cooper Temple Clause called it quits, but thankfully, the group’s former members have retained ties to the music world. In June, we reported on new music from Type Two Error, a London-based band featuring former Cooper Temple Clause members Ben Gautrey and Kieran Mahon. Gautrey has popped up again, this time providing vocals on “Brain,” the first single from Black Onassis’ upcoming album Desensitized.

Black Onassis is the brainchild of former Kasabian guitarist Chris Karloff. According to the NME, Gautrey won’t be the only guest vocalist to join Black Onassis; tracks on Desensitized will also feature the voices of Leila Moss (the Duke Spirit) and Morgan Kibby (M83).

“Brain” certainly has a hint of early Kasabian singles to it – heavy guitars are buried under synths, samples, and Chemical Brothers-style drums. Karloff has expressed his affinity for electronic music and seems to be exploring this genre in his latest venture.

Gautrey’s distinctive vocals will remind listeners of his work with the Cooper Temple Clause. The video for “Brain,” posted above, is an impressive short film about an isolated prisoner played by Tyler Noble, who finds himself mixed up in his captors’ medicinal experiments and eventually tries to escape. The video ends before we know if succeeds.

Desensitized is out September 23 on Minus Man Records.
