Listen to the Boston-born Carousel cover Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’

Jackson Phillips and Kevin Friedman started collaborating together as Carousel in 2011 while studying at Berklee College of Music. The duo first caught our attention with “Stay Awake,” a synth-pop lullaby track that found its way on both the Allston Pudding mixtape series and my daily playlists on WFNX’s Boston Accents. Last spring, the electro-pop duo graduated and relocated to Los Angeles, and on August 7 will release the Palms EP via Left Right Records, which you can pre-order now on iTunes.

But before that glistening pop dam explodes and shines stardust lights so bright we can see it across the country from Massachusetts Avenue, we’re vibing hard today to Carousel’s delectable feather-kissed cover of Robyn’s modern classic “Dancing On My Own.” It just might — maybe — rival the Swedish pop star’s original, which is only one of the greatest songs of the past decade.

The cover was posted to Soundcloud about a month ago but already has more than 150k views, but since it’s not included on Palms, we’re gonna drink it in now as a Weekend Primer before the EP’s release next week.
