Vanyaland’s top Ed Sheeran headlines ahead of Boston Calling

Our boy Ed Sheeran is back in town tonight (May 24) headlining Boston Calling, and it got us thinking of all the coverage we’ve given the English singer-songwriter over the years. The “Shape of You” singer has gotten mixed up in some pretty crazy stuff over the years — from admitting shitting himself on stage to commenting on a photo of a baby who looked just like him — so we’ve compiled eight of our favorite Ed Heds from the past decade or so.

Let’s dive in!

8. March 28, 2017: Shape Of Eww: Woman jailed for continuously playing Ed Sheeran song simply to annoy neighbor

Playing an Ed Sheeran song on a continuous loop at an unreasonable volume for a half-hour straight could land you in the clink. Just ask one woman from England. According to the NME, via the Daily Mail, Sonia Bryce from Walsall, an industrial city in the West Midlands of England, just outside Birmingham, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison after she used the pop singer’s recent hit to annoy the ever-loving shit out of her neighbor.

7. April 2, 2015: Fast Furry Friends: Ed Sheeran and Sesame Street team up, because of course they did

Here’s something released on April Fool’s Day that no one mistook for a joke: British singer Ed Sheeran has teamed up with children’s show Sesame Street for a hot new collaboration that pretty much everyone saw coming. “Filmed that a long time ago, happy it’s finally out,” Sheeran tweeted out yesterday. The old-fashioned jam session stars some of Sesame Street’s most recognizable stars, like Cookie Monster, Elmo, and Grover, and features some subject matter true to only the realest motherfuckers.

6. June 9, 2016: Copy Righted: Ed Sheeran sued for $20 million in suit that alleges he stole ‘Photograph’

According to the BBC, two American musicians, Martin Harrington and American Thomas Leonard, claim British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran ripped off their song “Amazing” — released in 2012 by X Factor winner Matt Cardle — for Sheeran’s own hit, “Photograph”. The lawsuit, filed in Central District of California federal court in Los Angeles, seeks $20 million in damages.

5. July 6, 2015: OMFG: Look how goddamned cute Ed Sheeran looks in a New England Patriots jersey

To get New England all riled up in ways that “Thinking Out Loud” could never possibly do, Gillette Stadium just tweeted out two pics of Ed Sheeren decked out in a home Patriots jersey, showing off the number 25 and what looks like a Super Bowl XLIX championship ring. We think the significance of the number has to do with the date the 24-year-old Sheeran plays Gillette, though the organization might have just had some old Kyle Arrington jerseys lying around after the cornerback was cut back in 2013. Is this as cool as Kendrick Lamar rocking an old school Patriots jacket in the “King Kunta” video? We’ll let you, dear reader, be the judge of that.

4. March 19, 2017: Shape Of Nope: Ed Sheeran addresses photo of baby that looks exactly like him

Today in Ed Sheeran news (which we guess is suddenly a thing here at Vanyaland), we have learned that the pop star has finally come face to face with the photo of a baby that looks exactly like him. Yeah yeah, we know what you’re thinking — after yesterday’s news about a British woman being jailed for playing Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” on repeat at obscene volumes just to piss off her neighbor, how can this development actually be news? But, uhhh, have you seen that photo?

3. September 26, 2015: American Blandstand: Watch Coldplay’s Chris Martin join Ed Sheeran on stage last night in Massachusetts

Ed Sheeran went from feeling “Red” to being “Yellow” last night at Gillette Stadium. The pop singer played a show-out show down in Foxborough, and took a page out of BFF Taylor Swift’s stadium-tour playbook by inviting a special guest up on stage to perform with him. Steven Tyler? JoJo? Ken Casey? Nope, it was Coldplay’s Chris Martin. “Gonna play a song that I think is gonna be fun — well, a couple of songs,” Sheeran told the crowd. As you can hear in the first video below, one fan’s guess of “Sir Elton John!” was pretty far off the mark. With Martin at the piano, the duo performed Coldplay’s 2000 breakout hit “Yellow,” and Sheeran’s own “Thinking Out Loud.”

2. June 12, 2015: Big Red Head: Ed Sheeran says British gingers are getting laid by impersonating him

If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. And if you look like Ed Sheeran, then simply pretend to be him — in England it’ll get you laid. The British pop star claims that ginger men in the United Kingdom are scoring with the ladies by pretending to be the 24-year-old pop star. Sheeran recently told a stateside radio station that some folks have taken to assuming the “Thinking Out Loud” singer to increase their chances of getting lucky.

1. July 24, 2015: Teen Shart-throb: Ed Sheeran recalls the time he shit himself on stage during a gig

Poor Ed Sheeran — did you know he sharted on stage once? The pop singer recalled the time he “misjudged a fart” during a live performance in a recent edition of the Yes-Or-No Game, revealing that not only did he accidentally deuce right there in front of the crowd, but casually played it off and finished the set. And no, he didn’t disclose which show this juice got loose. Instantly going from Top of the Charts to the Top of the Sharts.
