Summer’s winding down fast, but there’s one last sweat session in store for Boston this Friday night when 2014 Rock And Roll Rumble finalists Petty Morals wipe their Cherry Ice Pop EP across our grimy little faces at Church, a place where people are traditionally used to dropping to their knees.
In advance of the Salem band’s official record release down in the Fens, Petty Morals just unwrapped their new EP via Bandcamp for our listening pleasures. It follows recent releases like the Lemonade EP and Cotton Candy demos, and well, we’re sensing a pretty tasty theme here.
“We like to think this EP has a sweet pop vibe — that’s how came up with ‘ice pop’,” singer and ringleader Taiphoon tells Vanyaland. “We were hoping for a summer release — cherries are a summer fruit — and we are suckers for the double entendre so Cherry Ice Pop was born.”
And it’s already pretty fresh, advancing the band’s sultry modern new wave sound and adding flash dashes of punk, r&b and synthpop into a sonic cocktail that goes down easy. We’ve already been making out with the “Hey!-Hey!”-led “To The Edge,” each day on Vanya Radio, and a little jaw ache won’t slow us down until Friday arrives.
At Church, the Morals are joined on a pretty fab bill by fellow 2014 Rumblers Tigerman Woah and When Particles Collide and darling synth duo Miss Geo.
