Studio 52 Spotlight: Future Teens
What Studio 52 Says: Indie-pop boppers Future Teens are realists, even if it sounds like reality isn’t very desirable sometimes. The group reached a milestone last fall when they released their first full-length album Hard Feelings into the world. Riddled with dreamy riffs and sour lyrics, the album is the culmination of the band’s talents blossoming over the years since their inception in 2014 playing in the stretching DIY Allston music scene. With just the right hint of Death Cab for Cutie’s slick melodies, Future Teens personify the approach of the current generation’s indifference on dating and careers. They inject what it’s like to struggle at both into their songs and it bridges the connection between them and their listeners to create an unwavering bond throughout the entirety of the record. Their greatest strength is their honesty and they’re not hesitant to use it as fuel for their songs. Life isn’t easy sometimes but if we can continue to pull talent like Future Teens out of the muck, I think we’ll be OK. Hang out with Future Teens this Wednesday (August 22) with Dryjacket and Wild Pink at one of Allston’s leading venues, Great Scott.— Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
