The trailer deluge before tomorrow’s release of Justice League (read our review here) continues with the first preview for one of Warner Brothers’ silliest offerings of 2018.
No, not Aquaman, you nerds — it’s the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-staring vehicle and adaptation of the classic ’80s arcade game Rampage, in which the Rock has to save Chicago from a group of giant animals bent on wreaking all sorts of havoc on the city, probably because they’re big St. Louis Cardinals fans.
Peep it:
All in all, it looks pretty fun! We’re always down for whatever The Rock is cooking, even if it means he’s reteaming with Brad Peyton, the director of the deeply mediocre San Andreas. This looks significantly less stuffy than that project, and the cast is even better: Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello and Jeffery Dean Morgan are all present, amongst others. Yes, we know it’s probably going to be the same kind of CGI clusterfuck disaster movie that we get every year at some point, but this just looks so goofy that we can’t wait to watch it.
Here’s a synopsis from the WB’s YouTube page:
Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
Fortunately for all you stoners out there, Rampage will hit theaters on April 20 next year. We wonder if that was intentional.
