Britpop nostalgia has swept the United Kingdom in recent years, and now just in time for their 20th anniversary, the Bluetones have announced they are back on the scene. The Mark Morriss-led London group, whose biggest hit was 1996’s “Slight Return,” will play eight UK dates later this year.
As Gigslutz notes, the Bluetones said goodbye with a farewell gig at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire four years ago. Their debut LP, Expecting To Fly, was released in February 1996 and went platinum in the UK. The follow-up, 1998’s Return To The Last Chance Saloon, went gold in the United States.

Announced for September, the band will head back on the road once more beginning in Leeds on September 16, they will make their way through shows in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Portsmouth, London and Birmingham before their final show at Bristol’s O2 Academy on September 27.
The Bluetones’ last album was A New Athens and was released in May 2010. The band saw ‘Slight Return’ back in 1996 become their biggest hit and featured on their album Expecting To Fly which managed to knock Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? off the top spot on the UK albums charts.
Here’s the list of shows; tickets go on sale 10 a.m. this Friday (April 17). Let’s hope they hit US shores early next year.
