Perhaps it’s our childhood showing, but few things go together better than ska-punk, ice hockey, and horror films. Entire sleepover industries were built on this in the ’90s! Catbite seem to vibe on this inspired union as well, and the Philadelphia band’s new video for “Die in Denver” shows them hitting the ice — but in very gory, NSFW kind of ways.
Marking the sparkplug band’s first new music in three years, the lively and super fun “Die in Denver” will be featured on Catbite’s forthcoming release, Doom Garden, a six-track EP produced by illuminati hotties’ Sarah Tuzdin, out May 9 via Bad Time Records.
The visual, directed by Jak Kerley as a campy homage to b-movie horror films, depicts some more serious things just below the ice’s surface, and that’s a wider reflection on this new batch of Catbite tunes.
“The songs on Doom Garden are different from anything we’ve written before,” says vocalist Brit Luna. “I took a lot of time to self-reflect on my own human experience and how it has been affected by everything around me and within me. It’s really difficult to look inward and feel like you’re a terrible person. These songs helped me begin to heal parts of myself that I had long forgotten or pushed away. Being human is hard, but it’s not all bad.”
Catbite also never saw a stage it couldn’t conquer, and will be spending a decent chunk of 2025 on the road both here domestically and internationally to support the record. Relevant to our interests in Massachusetts is a June 1 appearance at Warehouse XI in Somerville with The OBGM’s.
