Nicole Kidman is trapped in suburban hell in the ‘Holland’ trailer

If you had asked us immediately after TIFF who would have been the frontrunner for Best Actress at the Oscars this year, we would have probably answered “Nicole Kidman.” Her work in Babygirl was stellar, but for whatever reason, she lost out — perhaps there’s only one room for a vaguely sex-positive portrayal in the nominee pool. Mikey Madison wasn’t going to go down very easily (also, we were still in the hazy days of Emilia Perez fever before every critic who reviewed it at one of the fall festivals begged their publishers to scrap their reviews in light of everything that’s going on there).

Anyway, what we can say is that we’re in the… Kidmanissance?

The post-AMC intro era? Because this trailer for her next project, Mimi Cave’s suburban thriller Holland (a town in Michigan, not the country), certainly seems like the kind of boundary-pushing shit she’s been rolling with for the last few years. Cave’s a swell director, and we enjoyed her previous film, Fresh, back when it hit streaming screens a few years ago. So, sign us the fuck up, no two-day shipping required.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis:

In this wildly unpredictable thriller, Nicole Kidman is the meticulous Nancy Vandergroot, a teacher and homemaker whose picture-perfect life with her community pillar husband (Matthew Macfadyen) and son (Jude Hill) in tulip-filled Holland, Michigan tumbles into a twisted tale. Nancy and her friendly colleague (Gael García Bernal) become suspicious of a secret, only to discover nothing in their lives is what it seems.

Holland will premiere next week at SXSW before it rolls out to Prime Video subscribers on March 27.
