This fine, freezing January won’t congeal Damndest’s rock vortex. The Boston band this past Friday (January 24) unleashed new EP No, besides, a roiling two-track project that evokes tumult even in its more meditative moments. EP opener “Until You’re Free” ducks into a melee of post-punk guitar riffs from 00:01, while accompanying track “Nesting Doll,” stretches the release’s mesmeric quality into a period of reflection. Presented together, No, besides, is a proper post-punk kick in the pants, set against a palpably polar backdrop that pairs well with the genre. Take the plunge with Damndest below.
