One of our favorite online trends of late has been all the “hey, you can’t park there!” videos, which usually end in some form of hostile retort from those who are… uhhh, parking where they shouldn’t be. We assume Hex Girlfriend enjoy these clips too, though the London duo of Noah Yorke and James Knott may be less concerned with cars and more about golf carts, as the title of their eclectic new EP, out last Friday (November 22) via via sly-tone Records, implies.
“No Golf Cart Parking means those who park their golf carts and commit evil deeds with handshakes and exchanges of words in between rounds of golf are not welcome,” the duo declares. “It’s an anti-fascist slogan, as these days you can reliably find fascists behind the doors of a members-only golf club. It’s also the name of this EP, into which we have squished gnashing noise, melancholy melody, repetitive danceable rhythm, and a lot more besides.”
That adds up to a compelling listen, and all four of these songs have their own distinct vibe and personality, filtered through Hex Girlfriend’s cauldron of rock and rave. Run the cart off the road ahead of you and dive in to the pair’s colorfully twisted world below.
