This one is very hardcore: Pulp are coming back to North America.
The Britpop icons have revealed their first stateside shows in more than a decade, as Jarvis Cocker and the gang will play five dates on our side of the Atlantic this fall. Included in the run are shows in Chicago, Toronto, New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Pulp’s last show in North America came at Coachella 2012, part of a first-round reunion that saw the legendary British band make a rare appearance in America. This new batch of shows, dubbed This Is What We Do For An Encore, is an extension of Pulp’s latest reunion, which began in the UK last summer.
“So, the encore continues,” says frontman Jarvis Cocker. “The songs came back to life and they want to be heard. They need to be heard. Come out and have some fun with us. You deserve it. Yes. You do.”
Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday (march 22). But there is a pre-sale, and here is word relayed from Rough Trade Records: “Fans can sign up for Pulp’s pre-sale by joining the band’s mailing via WeLovePulp.info before midnight PDT on Monday (March 18). All those who do, will be sent a link and password to use when tickets go on sale on a first come, first served basis at 10am (local time to each venue) on Tuesday (March 19).”
This Pulp reunion will feature the band’s familiar lineup minus longtime bassist Steve Mackey, who sadly passed away in March of last year. Next year marks the 30th anniversary of landmark album Different Class, one of the defining releases of the Cool Britannia era.
