Last week, Boston was treated to a pair of Lauren Mayberry live performances, as the CHVRCHES vocalist’s new solo project opened up the Death Cab For Cutie and Poster Service shows in the Fenway. Now Mayberry gets the stage to herself tonight (September 18) as she headlines a sold-out Brighton Music Hall in Allston.

Earlier this month, Mayberry presented “Are You Awake?”, the first music recorded and released as a solo artist. It’s a haunting and atmospheric piano ballad, allowing Mayberry’s voice to extend outward and connect with the listener, and serves as a warm and welcome introduction to the additional solo material fast on the way. It was co-written with Tobias Jesso Jr. and producer Matthew Koma, and mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent.

“’Are You Awake?’ is a song that started on a rainy day last December with Tobias Jesso Jr. I was thinking a lot about loneliness and homesickness, and as soon as Tobias started playing the chords, the lyrics and melody came to me really quickly,” Mayberry says. “I finished the song with my friend Matthew Koma, who really understood what I was trying to say.”

This one’s included in recent setlists, as well as a host of new songs and a Madonna cover. Get to know it well ahead of tonight’s show.
