We’ve all been in love with someone who didn’t love us back, and we’ve all felt the love from someone to which we remained indifferent, as our own love was directed elsewhere. That’s at the core of “Evelyn,” the enchanting new single from Bear’s Den that hits the streams today (April 13).

It’s also the first taste of a new EP, First Loves, due June 23 via Communion Records, and the follow-up to last year’s Blue Hours album and Apple TV+ soundtrack for Trying is positioned as a record that explores the more tumultuous side of relationships. In this case, it’s the title character understanding her maternal love as a close friend struggles with feelings towards Evelyn.

“I’ve always been drawn to finding people experiencing intense feelings together but not necessarily reciprocally towards each other,” the London folk-pop band states. “There are two separate love stories happening in the song and that’s kinda interesting to me.”
