We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: The Murder Capital’s March 2020 show in Somerville was the last live gig we covered before the world shit the pandemic bed. So seeing that the Irish post-punk band is heading back to our shores this March, pretty much exactly three years later, is pretty surreal.
And when The Murder Capital do crash our shores once again, part of a 13-date North American tour that kicks off in DC and wraps in San Francisco (get all the dates below), they’ll do so with a new album freshly loaded in the cannon: The upcoming Gigi’s Recovery, set for release January 20 via Human Season Records. We’ve already been treated to a few jams from the record so far — including 2022 SOTY crawler “Ethel” — and now the band has given us the visceral “Return My Head.” It’s another pointed compass suggesting Gigi’s Recovery will be one of the best records of the year.
“Return My Head was written in a place of pure frustration, feeling like our sanity had been unwillingly removed through periods of isolation,” says frontman James McGovern. “All I wanted at this point was to get my head back, and to throw it away again. But on my own terms. ‘Return my head, and throw it to the crowd.’”
We’ll be there to catch it. Tickets for all dates on The Murder Capital’s incoming tour go on sale Friday (January 13) at 10 a.m. local time.
