When the last trailer for James Cameron’s titanically-budgeted Avatar: The Way of Water hit a few weeks back, we wrote a bit at the end of our post covering it about how it was pretty on-point to debut an Avatar trailer on Good Morning America instead of Monday Night Football like the House of Mouse does for all their name-brand big-budget projects. But to our absolute surprise, viewers of last night’s game (who stuck around for halftime, at least, which was a tall task given the 49ers beat the hell out of a Kyler Murray-less Cardinals) were treated to a brand-new trailer for the film. So, to whomever at Disney/Fox is reading us, we admire your courage to go against the grain and try to get the kind of dude who wears replica jerseys and scraps with other drunks just like him in the parking lot at Levi’s — much like his father did at Candlestick before him — to get hyped up for the continuing adventures of the Na’vi.
Peep it:

And here’s Zoe Saldana telling you to go ahead and buy your tickets, because good god there’s gonna be a mad rush (at least in areas with lots of James Cameron fans and/or furries):
The official synopsis remains the same, of course:
“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
We really don’t know why, but the parentheses around the main characters’ names cracks us up. The joke about Avatar not being memorable or whatever is pretty stupid — that movie, which is not that bad, is just too fucking weird of an object to emerge from a major studio to be forgettable. They fuck by touching braids! There’s probably a whole generation of young adults who now have that kink!
Anyway, Avatar: The Way of Water hits theaters on December 16. While you do as Zoe Saldana commands you to, here’s a wonderful trip down memory lane for you to enjoy.
