Editor’s Note: As the temps begin to rise and the flowers begin to blossom, the top-tier selection of comedy shows to check out around Boston are also in full bloom as homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlight the calendar. Live entertainment continues to make its way back into our social lives — mask up! stay safe! — and so we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (June 26).
Brian Regan at Chevalier Theatre
Sure, Brian Regan’s back catalog of memorable bits have continued to bring fans into the comedy veteran’s world, but by no means can you put him in a box (or a boxen). Following the change in direction with his latest stand-up special, “On The Rocks,” Regan has reinvented himself in a way, as he tackles more personal topics under the surface, while staying true to the zaniness that has helped him continue to become one of the most well-respected artists in the comedy game.
Friday, June 24 at Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 7:30 p.m. :: Tickets are $39 to $69
Ron Funches at The Wilbur
If you’re looking for dark, gut-punching comedy that will not only leave a smile on your face, but also a glow of confidence shining in your chest, then look no further than Ron Funches. The feel-good funnyman returns to Boston with a brand new slate of material, and the same ol’ infectious smile and teddy-bear-with-a-hand-grenade demeanor that make his comedy so attractive.
Saturday, June 25 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m. :: Tickets are $30 to $40
Jay Leno at Symphony Hall Springfield
Cue the violins, the harp, the oboe, and hell, let’s hope for a gatdamn triangle solo. A bonafide legend will soon be in our midst as Jay Leno returns to his native Massachusetts for one night only at Symphony Hall in Springfield to bring us a six-cylinder engine of comedy gold, as he’s been known to do from time to time over the course of his *checks notes* 40-plus year career in the biz. There’s only one Leno — our 2019 interview with him proves that fact — but there are plenty of reasons to check this show out.
Saturday, June 25 at Symphony Hall, 34 Court St. in Springfield, MA :: 7:30 p.m. :: Tickets are $55 to $95
