Hey, did you know that there’s another Harry Potter prequel coming out in about six weeks? Because we didn’t remember anything at all about Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore until this brand new trailer dropped earlier on Monday, presumably to remind theatergoers seeing The Batman this weekend that Warner Bros. has other franchises that they, perhaps, once enjoyed. We’re sure that there’s a ton of people that are really pumped for this, but it’s kind of bizarre to see how the full-court press of advertising and whatnot has seemed to… evaporate, comparatively. Then again, that’s the problem with prequels, right? You can only do so much speculation because you know what’s going to happen at the end. But, hey, at least we can all agree that it’s a good thing that Mads Mikkelsen’s collecting a fat stack for his contributions to this. Dude rules, y’all.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis, which reads to us like how we must have sounded to our uncles back in the day when we tried to explain Star Wars lore:
“Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert
Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop
him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team
of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter
old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes
so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore hits theaters on April 15. Honestly, it feels pretty damn weird to have a Harry Potter film coming out sometime other than winter. Yes, we know there’s plenty of precedent for it, but it still feels wrong to us. Thankfully, it’ll probably feel like winter in three-quarters of the country then, thanks to those goddamn groundhogs.
