If you have to watch one trailer by a long-absent and much-beloved filmmaker before the sun sets at 4 p.m., we highly recommend that you take a look at the brand-spanking-new footage from Richard Stanley’s Color Out of Space, an HP Lovecraft adaptation starring Nicolas Cage that is so wild and wacky you’ll wonder why Stanley ever left in the first place (here’s a hint: it was all Marlon Brando’s fault). That’s so much more interesting than another Peter Pan adaptation, right? RLJ Entertainment dropped the first trailer for the project earlier on Tuesday, and we really hope you spend your coffee break enjoying this one.
Peep it:
Now, we were lucky enough to catch this one at Fantastic Fest back in September, and we’ll just go ahead and tell you right now: this is one of the wildest and most-fun movies of the entire fall festival season, and we can’t wait for all of you to check it out. It’ll scratch that Cage itch, satisfy Lovecraft fans, and make you feel you upset that we were robbed of 20-plus years of work from Stanley. Also: this features a brand new Colin Stetson score, so you saxophone nerds out there who freaked out when the dude composed the score for Hereditary have something to look forward to in the new year.
Here’s the official synopsis, from RLJE:
“After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner (Nicolas Cage) and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a living nightmare.”
Color Out of Space hits theaters on January 24. We’re gonna just go ahead and tell you to book that Alpaca meet-and-greet that you’ve been planning to go on with your nieces and nephews: it’ll add a whole new dimension to this one.
