Earlier this month, The Strokes continued their planned “global comeback” by playing a fairly polarizing headlining set at Lollapalooza Chicago. Some folx loved it, some critics hated it, but one person who is definitely not sweating it is Nick Valensi, whose side hustle CRX is busy churning out quality videos and tunes.
Back in June we were treated to the hypnotic abyss of “We’re All Alone”, and today (August 15) we slide into a casual guitar-rock groove via new single “Get Close.” Both songs are to be featured on CRX’s forthcoming August 23 album PEEK.
The video for “Get Close” was directed by Kansas Bowling, who states: “[Guitarist Darian Zahedi] wanted a female vampire video so I took the concept and created a look that vampire movies hadn’t done before — contemporary Bourbon Street vampire women! The voodoo aspect mixed with the vampire mythology created things like the swamp daytime face mask looks — it got us an iconic Jean Rollin-style uniform! And and we got New Orleans local and Italian horror legend Geretta Geretta to cameo as the bartender which was really exciting!”
Bowling admits that “New Orleans is already a place with a spooky history of its own,” and therefore “it wasn’t hard to create a 16mm horror love-letter to it!”
We’re into it.
