Honey Cutt shirk away from a Floridian ‘Suburban Dream’ with new single

Even after years since moving to Boston, songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Kaley Honeycutt still feels the sticky sway of Florida living — and from 1300 miles away, she’s calling it out with her indie-surf trio Honey Cutt (fka Baby!) on their new track “Suburban Dream.” The tune, which dropped on Friday (July 12), is the band’s first release under the name Honey Cutt, and also their first material since signing to Kanine Records.

“Suburban Dream is a tongue in cheek song I wrote to process my feelings about all of the societal expectations projected onto me growing up in Florida,” Honeycutt shares on Twitter.

“I am a sun-kissed succulent,” she coos on the track, spelling out her interpretation of the “ideal” sultry Florida woman. Then she gets a little more visceral, extrapolating a sense of helplessness 1950s-housewife-style: “I am an ordained fantasy / Deflowered with glory / In my five carat ring / And I’ll be in this place all my life.” Paired with the group’s LP Sunny, F.L. (initially released under the name Baby!), Honeycutt continues to sketch out the darker hues of life in her home state.
