There sure are many reasons to desire a return to life from a dozen years ago, when we were busy staying high with Tove Lo, clocking overnight habits across city nightlife, and feeling pretty optimistic about the years to follow. It’s been a bumpy ride ever since, pretty much, but the Swedish alt-pop starlet has been a relative constant in our playlists, offering whipsmart observations about the trials and tribulations of being alive with colorful emotions in an era of grayscale fuckery.
This week she returns with a lively new tune in “DNH”, a drunk n’ horny electro-pop bop with a throwback hedonistic vibe about taking care of our besties (friends?! how very retro-minded) over a wild night out. And it’s also the latest from her forthcoming sixth album ESTRUS, out in September on Pretty Swede Records/Virgin Music Group.
“Estrus is an animal in heat,” Tove Lo says. “It’s primal. It’s my mind and my body wanting different things, wanting everything. There’s no good advice on this album… just a lot of feelings, no solutions.”
We’ve been feeling fairly DNR in recent years, so a shift to “DNH” is perhaps just what we needed.
