Next up on the North Shore: The Lynn Music Festival returns

Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado — one of the most famous outdoor venues in the United States — is roughly a 2,000 mile drive from Boston. But there’s no need to head on a cross-country drive this summer; Lynn’s Red Rock Park in Lynn is a zippy 12-mile trip along the Atlantic, and it’s hosting the third-ever Lynn Music Festival this weekend.

The free celebration returns this Saturday (June 20) and will feature more than 15 sets between 1 and 8 p.m, although the talent’s not limited to the North Shore.

Regional acts like Suriel (of Lynn, pictured above) and 1NDY (of Salem) will take the stage, as will New Englanders like Boston funk/hip-hop blenders Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket, Dorchester emcee Meech BOLD, and Rhode Island singer-songwriter Ben Shaw. Puerto Rican saxophonist and composer Jonathan Suazo, who’s an alum of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, will headline the festival.

As a project of the Lynn Music Foundation, the festival represents one of many recent initiatives to bolster and spotlight the North Shore’s arts scene. The nonprofit MOON has also made strides in supporting access to Salem’s underground music community, and a documentary about Lynn hip-hop was shown at the most recent Lynn Film Festival.
