Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of Music, Comedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.
Music: Night Tapes at The Sinclair
The rate at which we consume music these days is overwhelming and dizzying. But every so often a new release has the ability to make us stop, stand still, and take inventory of both the past and future, Night Tapes awarded us that momentary bliss over the summer with “Helix,” a hypnotic blend of atmospheric dream-pop and UK alternative that showcased the London trio’s penchant for transportive beats n’ treats. As they pull into The Sinclair in Cambridge this Saturday, they do so with September debut album portals//polarities fresh for discovery, presenting a night of immersive and exploratory sounds that resonate from within. “The album is an exploration of energies and an exploration into my soul,” says Estonian-born Iiris Vesik. “I go into the spectrality of my being and into different polarities within myself. I would like to understand myself and to understand relationships I have with myself and others because I’m trying to change the small things in order to tackle the big ones. I’m just trying to be as honest as possible because lies are prisons. I’m from a country that used to be under authoritarian rule. I am really grateful to have been born in a free country, and I value freedom above most things.”

Comedy: Alex Edelman at The Wilbur
We’ve been covering the sharp rise of homegrown export Alex Edelman for years now, and the Brookline native returns to familiar grounds on Saturday with a new hour at The Wilbur. Mic’d Up breaks it down: “If you’ve ever caught yourself asking ‘what would Edelman do?’ – don’t worry, you’re not alone. However, it’s the man himself who is asking the big questions ‘round these here parts this weekend… with his brand new show What Are You Going To Do? The new slate of material comes as the exciting next chapter in Edelman’s career, which saw a titanic evolution in both creative approach and notoriety as a result of his award winning Off-Broadway, then On-Broadway, and ultimately smash hit HBO special Just For Us, which took the world by storm for the majority of 2023 and 2024. As well, his role in Peacock’s Office spinoff, The Paper, has garnered recognition as the show prepares for a second season following the success of its inaugural run of episodes.”
ALEX EDELMAN :: Saturday, October 18 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 p.m. & 9 p.m., $60 to $81 :: Advance tickets
Film/TV: ‘Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror’ at Fine Arts Theatre
They say there’s nothing scarier than the suburbs, and in recent the Maynard Fine Arts Theatre has taken that to (bloody) heart. The indie cinema northwest of Boston hit our pages recently with the successful launch of JR Spooky Shack’s Spooky Sundays mystery series, and now gets its fright on this Saturday with Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, screening the iconic 1922 silent film with a live score from Interlude Music pianist Devereux Geiger. Here’s the official word: “It’s 1922 in Germany and you sit in a dark theater and watch Nosferatu – a black and white film with no sound and no soundtrack, instead a lone pianist or organist is in the theater possibly also watching the film for the first time. The musician creates the world of Nosferatu and sets the mood for the first-ever horror movie. The plot seems familiar. Nosferatu was clearly adapted from Dracula – so much so that Bram Stoker’s widow sued the film makers and they were forced to destroy all copies of the film. Fortunately for us some copies still remain. Join us to see a film you were never supposed to see, the way you were supposed to see it- with original live music!”
‘NOSFERATU: A Symphony of Horror’ :: Saturday, October 18 at Maynard Fine Arts Theatre, 19 Summer St. in Maynard, MA :: 1 p.m., $28.52 :: Event info :: Advance tickets
