Ruth Lyon channels a new sense of freedom through ‘Caesar’

We’ve longed been told to “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s,” but at a certain point in our lives, we learn to shift that perspective inward rather than outward, allowing it to enrich ourselves as much as it would others. A sense of personal fulfillment permeates through Ruth Lyon’s intricate new indie-folk tune “Caesar,” which the Newcastle artist serves up fresh off last Friday’s release of debut album Poems & Non-Fiction. “Caesar” swells with a theatrical sense of pride and poetic nuance, positioning Lyon’s voice as one to stop and absorb from all angles. “I have felt a huge pressure in my life to be measured and stoic, not to affect anyone with my emotions, as if anger is reserved for others,” Lyon says. “But I now refute that and will allow myself to express how I feel with freedom. I wanted to confront misogynistic expectations of silent suffering.” Dive into the official music video, directed by Roberto Colapietro, below.
