Chloe Overbaugh finds clarity by the coast in her ‘unkiss you’ video

The elegant acoustic pop of “unkiss you” can’t mask Chloe Overbaugh’s remorse. Her repeated lines of ”I knew it was wrong” are each a stab of regret, building to the point where the Swampscott artist admits to the world: “I knew it was wrong when every time we kissed / I wanted to unkiss you.”

So when it came time for Overbaugh to film the tune’s accompanying music video, she headed somewhere that always felt right.

Strolling around Bailey’s Hill Park in Nahant, Overbaugh unfurls her confessions in the new visual, which arrived at the end of last month (January 29). The lush park has been one of her favorite “thinking spots” for years, and has served as everything from a meeting place with friends to an ideal spot for finding musical inspiration.

“Being able to see the coastline of Boston from far away has always helped put things into perspective and remind me that my problems aren’t so big after all,” she tells Vanyaland.
“So, aside from the beautiful aesthetics, Bailey’s Hill made a lot of sense as a location for a song so focused on introspection.”

The visual came together last month in 45 degree weather, effectively reintroducing the cut from her summer 2024 EP Forever Fades. While Overbaugh distances herself from the past relationship, the video for “unkiss you” seems to double as a love letter to the park, as she finds a fresh slate in a familiar setting. (Not to the mention that a line like “time doesn’t stop for your sorrow” feels at home alongside the ceaseless pull of the tides).
