Our very own love language often exposes deep-rooted beliefs of who we are as people, and offers a glimpse inward to why we treat those closest to us the way we do. For IDER, the London singer-songwriter duo of Megan Markwick and Lily Somerville, themes of love language and attachment styles swirl around their buoyant new single “Attachment Theory,” which glistens with an early-2010s alt-pop confidence and warm sense of awareness.
The track dropped this past Friday (January 10) via Nettwerk, and will be featured on IDER’s forthcoming third album Late To The World, arriving February 21.
“We wrote ‘Attachment Theory’ after a friend asked us to write a song about attachment styles,” IDER offer. “It seems as though everyone is obsessed with the idea and with self-diagnosing, so we decided to write a confessional song about ours. On a deeper and more emotional level it’s about the fear of being defined by the way you love and desperately wanting to change it.”
“Attachment Theory” surfaces complete with a confessional, cinematic video filmed in London on 16mm film by director Basha De Bruijn.
“The concept was simple — us crying and ‘getting through life’ in everyday situations filmed around London and at Meg’s flat, to capture the raw and real message of the song,” the duo state. “The video was shot on 16mm film which made the final visual and the filming experience as true to life as possible.”
