Gloomy times call for gloomy sounds, and Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs are up to the task with enough riffs to cast the sky in a claustrophobic heaviness. The Newcastle doom metal titans unleashed new noisy and chaotic track “Detroit” this week (November 11), their first since last year’s Land of Sleeper album, and it was born out of a drum beat that first surfaced during a soundcheck in the song’s namesake. Here’s what singer Matt Baty has to say about it: “’Detroit’ reflects on the worst manifestations of male jealousy and resentment, and the ways in which a lack of accountability can lead to deflecting responsibility in exchange for blaming external forces like fate or God for perceived injustice.” The band says that proceeds from the track will be donated to domestic abuse charities ahead of a 2025 UK tour, and plans to return to North America are currently underway.
