Jerry Cantrell, I Want Blood Tour, February 4
It’s pretty remarkable what kind of solo career Jerry Cantrell has weaved outside and alongside Alice In Chains (who, side note, may hold up better than any of the classic grunge bands of the early-’90s). We loved his 2021 album Brighten, which leaned into some Americana territory, and now the acclaimed songwriter releases new record I Want Blood in tandem with news of a North American tour that plays Boston’s Citizens House of Blues on February 4. And if it’s blood that Jerry Cantrell wants, then it is blood he will get. “There’s a confidence to this album,” Cantrell says. “I think it’s some of my best writing and playing and certainly some of my best singing. There are large chunks of this record where I felt like my face was pressed to the ceiling of my abilities, operating at the top of my capacity.” I Want Blood is a star-studded affair, with contributions from Duff McKagan, Mike Bordin, Robert Trujillo, Greg Puciato, Gil Sharone, and Lola Colette. Hit the title track below, and play it loud and heavy. Tickets go on sale Friday (October 18) at 10 a.m. local time.
Foster The People, Foster Paradise State of Mind Tour, February 22
For a certain segment of folx in the Boston music scene, Foster The People will always be a kinda-sorta local band. Mark Foster’s longtime collaborator and co-conspirator Isom Innis once toiled in our fair city’s dirty rock clubs via electro-pop project Southern Belle, and we always figured he’d go on to global stages. So as Foster The People unveil their Foster Paradise State of Mind Tour for early ’25, we’re counting the February 22 party at Citizens House of Blues in Boston as a homecoming gig. The duo will be on the road supporting this past summer’s ace new album Paradise State Of Mind, and given the upbeat and eclectic beats on the record, it should be quite the dance party. But like most Foster The People compositions, there’s a darker undercurrent to the gloss on the surface. “I think the trickiest part about this record was trying to be authentic about what had been going on with me,” says Foster via Audacity, “without writing something super dark and without glossing over it, either. Because, to me, it was really important that hope remain at the core of this whole thing.” Tickets go on sale Friday (October 18) at 10 a.m. local time.
