From homegrown bands vying for a Boston Music Awards nomination to global acts auditioning for some GRAMMY attention, it’s truly “For Your Consideration” season. But Empress Of has been playing the long game, dropping new album For Your Consideration in March, and following it up this month with For Your Consideration (Deluxe Pt. 2), a second expanded issue that includes new music plus reimagined versions of the record’s initial offerings.
The alt-pop artist shows it all off tonight (October 16) at The Paradise Rock Club, part of a North American tour that closes things out here in Boston before shows in Vermont and Montreal.
And it makes sense that the For Your Consideration title comes from a Los Angeles performer, as it has roots in Hollywood. Empress Of has this to say: “I was in love with a director and he was announcing his ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for the Oscars. He took me up on a hill and said he was emotionally unavailable and he kind of broke my heart. I went into the studio that day and we wrote a song called ‘For Your Consideration’ that reflects on glam and Hollywood. That was the gateway for the album and it gave me the opportunity to explore broader themes.”
And we’re all better off for it. Preview For Your Consideration (Deluxe Pt. 2) below ahead of tonight’s gig.
