Editor’s NoteAs the summer wears on, and the earth continues to melt a little more each day, it’s becoming abundantly clear that the best place to be is indoors – like comedy clubs and theaters. The good news here is that comedy is still coursing through the veins of The Commonwealth even as the temperature rises and the humidity keeps things soupy, so you have plenty to do while also evading the heat. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (September 1).

Whale City Comedy Festival

Back for another whale of a time after launching last year, the festival boasts another top-tier lineup composed of national headliners like Andy Haynes, and locally-grown faves like Kelly MacFarland, Ray Harrington, Laura Severse, and more as New Bedford, Fall River, and Westport are transformed into a comedy oasis for a couple of days.

WHALE CITY COMEDY FESTIVAL :: Wednesday, August 28 to Sunday, September 1 at various locations :: Varying times each night, $30 :: Advance Tickets

Kenice Mobley at Laugh Boston

Kenice Mobley has put the work in on her latest one-person show, Don’t Kill Yourself Yet, since bringing it to town last year, so it’ll be an exciting development to watch unfold as the BU alum brings it to an even bigger stage in the city for a bit of an updated performance.

KENICE MOBLEY :: Thursday, August 29 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $25 :: Advance tickets

Greg Stone at The Comedy Scene

It’s been quite awhile since we last touched base with Greg Stone, but for all intents and purposes, he’s been killing it on stage over the last few years. With an attitude almost specifically sculpted for comedy, Stone makes his way back to the area with his latest hour, and hopefully, that same ol’ vibe that we’ve come to know and love him for.

GREG STONE :: Friday, August 30 and Saturday, August 31 at The Comedy Scene, 23 Patriot Place in Foxborough, MA :: 7:15 p.m., $22 :: Advance Tickets

Sean Patton at Crystal Ballroom

A little bit of that NOLA charm never hurt anyone, and having Sean Patton back in town is always a treat. One of the most acclaimed storytellers and joke writers on the grind today, Patton keeps bringing the good good to the masses, and as long as he’s up for that, we’re up for a throwdown with one of the best in the game.

SEAN PATTON :: Saturday, August 31 at Crystal Ballroom, 55 Davis Square in Somerville, MA : 6 p.m., all ages, $25 :: Advance tickets
