Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: A Tribute To Ducky Carlisle at Brighton Music Hall

Last October, the Boston music scene lost one of its most beloved figures and vital behind-the-scenes players when Ducky Carlisle unexpectedly passed away. This Sunday (August 11), an army of his friends, colleagues, and collaborators come together at Brighton Music Hall for A Tribute To Ducky Carlisle, raising a glass to, and storming the stage for, the Grammy award-winning mixing engineer, drummer, and studio wizard. Taking part in the festivities is an all-star lineup of Barrence Whitfield, Tom Hambridge, Sal Baglio, BLEU, Mike Viola, The Flashcubes, The Figgs, Invincible Casuals, Air Traffic Controller, Corin Ashley, Nat Freedberg, Anthony Kaczynski, Jim Infantino, Michael Gray, Emily Grogan, Michael Oliver, Peter Parcek, and others. “We miss the late greatest Ducky Carlisle every damn day,” states a post on his Insta memorial page. “…a slew of us friends will be performing @brighton_music to celebrate his larger than life. It won’t be as good without him, but maybe that’s the point. And there will be many (many) more Ducky acolytes performing than are listed on the bill. Come help us send off our brilliant best friend.”

A TRIBUTE TO DUCKY CARLISLE :: Sunday, August 11 at Brighton Music Hall, 158 Brighton Ave. in Allston, MA :: 7 p.m., all ages, $24 :: Event info :: Advance tickets

Comedy: Shane Mauss at Laugh Boston

When life becomes a trip, the trip turns to Shane Mauss. The Wisconsin comedian keeps the summer vibes as loose as the sky above as he hits Laugh Boston in the Seaport this Sunday (August 11). Mic’d Up sets it up: “If you ever wanted to see what it might be like if Bill Nye and Timothy Leary teamed up to do a comedy show, Shane Mauss has, perhaps, offered something just like that. Of course, the wildly informative and entertaining journey through a discussion of psychedelic drugs is powered by Mauss’ long-standing laidback demeanor and sharply written comedy and storytelling, all packaged up together to deliver a pretty rad trip, even if you aren’t actively tripping balls.” It’s BYOP, so heads up.

SHANE MAUSS :: Sunday, August 11 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., $25 to $40 :: Advance tickets

Film/TV: ‘The Goonies’ on Boston Common

Hey you guys! Alamo Drafthouse and Commonwealth Shakespeare Company have teamed up to present a free screening of The Goonies this Saturday (August 10; moved from Friday night), and word on the street is the first 1,000 heads to arrive score a Goonies flag. The adventure comedy film, directed and co-produced by Richard Donner (from a screenplay by Chris Columbus based on a story by Steven Spielberg), turns 40 next year, which feels both kinda weird and oddly appropriate. Here’s the event description: “A group of young misfits called The Goonies discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure. Bring beach chairs, blankets, pints of ice cream and get ready to do the Truffle Shuffle at a special outdoor screening of beloved family adventure classic The Goonies. All are welcome and the first 1000 people will receive Goonies flags. In true Goonies fashion there will be a treasure hunt where participants will receive a prize for finding the rich stuff placed around the event.”

‘THE GOONIES’ :: Saturday, August 10 at The Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common, 139 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 8 p.m., free admission :: Event info
