There are few things we love more here on the V than inspired covers that expand the impact and scope of the original, and the latest in this ongoing effort comes from Bizarrekult. The Norwegian project of Roman V has given Depeche Mode’s “Useless” the black metal treatment, hitting the streams today (July 8) via Season of Mist, and it paints the enduring Ultra single in darker shades across a rumbling seven-minute runtime, swerving in and out of familiar lanes without ever losing focus. And the spark for this one runs deep. “I found myself losing control of my life, immersed in a seemingly endless series of dramatic events that worsened each day,” says Roman. “In those dark days, ‘Useless’ became a perfect companion, a soundtrack to my struggle, echoing my tired and bruised existence but still standing, battling the abyss.” Embrace it below.
