It’s no secret that we’re pretty big fans of the late-career turn that M. Night Shyamalan has made since he returned to multiplexes after a Last Airbender-sized setback, and it’s even more heartening that the dude is going back to his pure Hitchcock roots. That’d be Trap, which will hit theaters in a couple of weeks, and focuses on a father-and-daughter at a pop concert who become the targets of a mysterious serial killer.
It’s fitting that this will probably be showing in front of MaXXXine this weekend — you know, “fame kills” and all that assorted jazz. It stars Josh Hartnett, who has had a hell of a decade between Penny Dreadful and Wrath of Man and Oppenheimer, and we’re excited to see him cook with Shyamalan, especially since what they’re serving up looks like pure catnip for horror nerds and for parents all over the world who have had to take their kids to a concert like this one. That’s just absolute horror, right there, never mind the serial killer.
Take a look (and for the love of God, make sure your phone or computer or television volume is turned down, because our ears are absolutely ringing right now):
We’ve cobbled together a pretty attractive synopsis from what Warner Bros. has put out, so check it out below:
“30,000 Fans. 300 Cops. 1 Serial Killer. No Escape. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a new experience in the world of M. Night Shyamalan — ‘Trap’ — featuring performances by rising music star Saleka Shyamalan. A father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.”
Trap hits theaters on August 12. So, who wants to bet the serial killer is either a disgruntled fan or someone involved in the industry? That’s just pretty much how this works.
