Mic’d Up: Gareth Reynolds, Laurie Kilmartin, Above The Clouds

Via The Wilbur

Editor’s NoteHow the hell is it already June? Aside from the fact that we may or may not have stepped into a time warp (put your hands on your hips), with a new month and nice weather comes even better comedy talent, and maybe a few less reasons to stay inside. So, while we keep searching for where the time and our sanity have gone, we’ll take the chance to remind you that comedy is continuing to do the Lord’s work by giving us something to smile (or groan, wince, or gasp) at. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (June 30).

Tapered Expectations XXIII: Above The Clouds at Cloud & Spirits

If you’re looking to fend off the hump day blues, Acquired Taste Comedy has the show just for you. Showcasing hard-grinding talent in comedy and beyond, it’s looking like a midweek party like no other, as acclaimed local crusher Gary James makes his way to the stage for some much-needed chuckles, and Roquetzal gets the people going with his eclectic and unique musical stylings.

ABOVE THE CLOUDS :: Wednesday, June 26 at Cloud & Spirits, 795 Main St. in Cambridge, MA :: 7 p.m., $25 :: Advance tickets

Gareth Reynolds at Laugh Boston

If you’re looking for an all-around experience at a comedy show, Gareth Reynolds has exactly what you’re looking for. If it isn’t his top-tier joke writing ability, his storytelling and observational approaches curate a deeply creative and honest set that shines a light on his genuine love for the craft.

Laurie Kilmartin at Off Cabot

Buckle up, because things are about to get dark. With a penchant for bringing the darkness to light, Laurie Kilmartin returns to the North Shore with a new dose of reality and creative napalm that is still lingering from her most recent special. As long as the world keeps turning, Kilmartin is sure to continue turning out dangerously sharp and hilarious takes that seek to destroy as much as they seek to bring the room down with laughs.

LAURIE KILMARTIN :: Friday, June 28 to Saturday, June 29 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 7 p.m., $35 :: Advance tickets
