Watch the bloody teaser for Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’

If there’s one thing that we love about Robert Eggers‘ filmography, it’s that it seems like he’s trying his best to piece together what would be one of the greatest single issues of a classic pulp horror magazine through his movies. He started off with The Witch, which was puritan folk horror, moved on to the Lovecraftian absurdity of The Lighthouse, made a barbarian tale that would have Robert E. Howard throwing up the horns with The Northman, and now, he’s taking on the vampyr. Specifically, a remake of F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu, which he’s been wanting to make for a while now and has finally achieved the credit and capital needed within the industry to do so.

To say the least, we’re hyped as fuck to see what Bill Skarsgard looks like in the make up, and to see what crazy shit that Eggers has cooked up now that he’s playing with some legitimately iconic imagery. Speaking of imagery, Focus dropped a first-look teaser for the film earlier on Monday, and man, what a way to kick off the week.

Peep it:

Look, this is based on a movie that came out a century ago that was itself based on a novel that had existed for a few decades at that point, so forgive us if we agree with Focus on keeping this particular synopsis nice and short:

“Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”

Nosferatu hits theaters on Christmas Day. Santa really needs to step up his game for all the film nerds out there in the world, because we can hardly imagine a better gift for them. Maybe a Criterion flash sale that’s 75 percent off or something? Whatever the case, the man in the big red suit needs to get cracking.
