For a rapper who already released an EP titled RICH, MonaVeli knows how to one-up her own wealth. “What you know about swordfish and rooftops for first dates?” the Brockton emcee asks on “BLOCK PARTY,” her Leo-the-Kind-produced single from last month (May 24).
The woozy tune drools with a ravenous hunger for more in every sense of the word; more than a penthouse, more than a skyscraper, MonaVeli asserts “I need the whole damn block / I need it all and then some.” And by the sounds of it, she won’t even have to open her wallet — “Your man gon’ spend your tuition on me and my friends” — which feels like the modern version of Lil Kim’s iconic quip “Why spend mine / When I can spend yours?” from the 2001 femme fatale rendition of “Lady Marmalade.”
