Editor’s Note: Just like Justin Timberlake said way back in the day with his iconic ramen hair: “It’s gonna be May.” With a new month and nice weather comes even better comedy talent, and maybe a few less reasons to stay inside. So, while we keep searching for where the time and our sanity have gone, we’ll take the chance to remind you that comedy is continuing to do the Lord’s work by giving us something to smile (or groan, wince, or gasp) at. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (May 26).
Steven Rogers at Laugh Boston
If the ascent of Steven Rogers isn’t one of your favorite success stories in the comedy game, you may need to get checked. Harnessing a potent streak of realness in his approach, one of the industry’s nicest nice guys returns to the city for an update on his life. Chances are he’ll have a good dose of self-depreciation to deliver, but we’ll all be there to give him one, big collective hug in the form of laughs.
STEVEN ROGERS :: Thursday, May 23 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m., $25 :: Advance tickets
Jimmy Cash at The Cut
While the Worcester native continues to take the local and regional comedy game by storm, he’s making his way to the North Shore for a full comedy triangle of dominance. Before the Janitor with Stamina closes the night with gusto, Chris Tabb and Chris Post are bringing the heat at their own velocities, so it’s going to be one jam-packed night of nothing but the best the commonwealth has to offer.
JIMMY CASH :: Thursday, May 23 at The Cut, 177 Main St. in Gloucester, MA :: 7 p.m., $30 :: Advance tickets
Dan Boulger at City Winery
Another full slate on the docket this week shows Dan Boulger in the headlining spot, a space he comfortably commands whenever possible. Not to mention, he has a top-tier fight card leading up to the main event with Mary Spadaro, Chris Kinback, Jim McCue, and James Scott Patterson bringing their own flavors of unhinged hilarity to the table.
