Latrell James, May 30
We love a solid homegrown product, and Latrell James remains one of the best in the Boston business. The rapper and producer unveiled new album Running In Place last month, his first new project in four years, and celebrates it with a release party May 30 at Brighton Music Hall in Allston. Here’s what we said about it: “Running In Place picks up where James left off in 2020 with his EP Under, unrolling 13 tracks’ worth of gymnastic bars that effortlessly leap between social commentaries. A handful of songs feature area acts ToriTori and Lilah — plus Baton Rouge rapper Quadry — but James’ arresting wordplay always seizes center stage at this ‘Tedd Talk’: ‘I’m thumbing through the chapters / Feels like I’m running backwards / At least I’m running, though,” he raps on the opening track, low-key production accentuating his story.” Tickets go on sale Friday (April 12) at 10 a.m. local time.
