Fresh off his last masterpiece, Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimos is again back at it. We bet you can still see that movie in theaters, and now you’re going to watch a trailer for a new movie from the dude. Someone should take that old Vince McMahon-getting-his-mind-blown meme and use it to describe how we felt upon hearing about Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness. You know what — we detest outsourcing our work, so we’ll just go ahead and whip something up ourselves. How’s this?
Pretty decent, right? So, yeah, that sums up our feelings on this matter (and don’t take this as an endorsement of Vince McMahon, because good lord). Anyhow, Searchlight dropped the first trailer for Kinds of Kindness, which features teasing hints as to what it’s actually about, with its all-star cast — Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Hunter Schafer, and many more — front-and-center in what looks to be a fabulist crime thriller. Who knows what it all means, but we’re here for it.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis that’s as cryptic as the trailer above:
“‘Kinds of Kindness’ is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.”
Kinds of Kindness hits theaters on June 21. May we all get the work ethic that folks like Lanthimos, Stone, Dafoe, and Plemons have — good god, those are some busy, busy people. Savor this time before Yorgos goes back into hibernation, folks, because you don’t know how good you have it until it’s gone. We think some great poet said that. Or at least Smash Mouth did.
