At some point in our lives, and likely way more than once, we have been met with doubt and detractors after following through on a passion or calling. For Georgia Reed, the Australian-based singer and songwriter, it happened when she relocated to England during a hiatus from music, and she heard loud and clear from all those who were deeply skeptical of the move.
Reed has channeled that sentiment into her stirring new dark electronic-pop single “Honey,” which swirls and aches with a stoic defiance and displays the confidence of an artist who knew what she was doing all along. And it makes no apologies in its enchantment.
“I had some friends who had been placing bets on how long I’d ‘last’ in London,” Reed quips. “The chorus is basically saying ‘I don’t need your prayers.'”
Not with a sound like this. The haunting “Honey” and all its ethereal sonic complexions will be featured on Reed’s forthcoming debut EP, set for release on March 13. There is little reason to doubt it.
