Don’t let your kids see the new ‘Imaginary’ trailer

Imaginary
Lionsgate

It’s hard to imagine (lol), but a Blumhouse horror flick might sink John Krasinski’s chances at hitting the top of the pops with a new IP. We’d joke about “biting the genre that feeds you” here, but Office Jim did his directorial work for Michael Bay at Platinum Dunes, not for Jason Blum and company. But, really, it was a coup on the part of Lionsgate and Blumhouse to preempt Krasinski’s If, a warm and cuddly Ryan Reynolds-led comedy about your make-belief childhood best friends, with Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary, which is a horror flick about a child with a very special imaginary pal.

Well, even if it is technically just a haunted teddy bear, they still beat Jack Ryan to the punch with that title — swear to God, we even straight-up assumed that this was his next movie, and not the comedy — which is probably going to be the best thing about the movie. Wadlow doesn’t have the world’s best track record, but, hey, based on this new trailer that Lionsgate dropped on Tuesday, we’d say it’s at least worth giving the guy who did Kick-Ass 2 and Truth or Dare another shot. Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis:

“From Blumhouse, the genre-defining masterminds behind Five Nights at ‘Freddy’s’ and ‘M3GAN,’ comes an original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends – and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath? When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.”

Imaginary hits theaters on March 8. Remember, you’ll fuck up your kids if you take them to this, so please do not bring your children along when you head to the theater.
