Real Estate are back, and with a refreshed feeling of creativity. The enduring New Jersey indie rock band today (November 27) release a vibrant new single called “Water Underground,” complete with a music video inspired by ’90s Nickelodeon sitcom The Adventures of Pete & Pete. and starring the television show’s Danny Tamberelli and Michael C. Maronna.

“This song is about writing songs,” says Real Estate frontman and lyricist Martin Courtney. “I think ‘Water Underground’ is like the unconscious, the mysterious part of your brain where creativity comes from. The constant flow of music in the back of your head. You get an idea while driving or walking the dog or something and you want to hold on to it.”

The new track will be featured on Real Estate’s forthcoming sixth album Daniel, set for release February 23 via Domino Recording Co. It was recorded with GRAMMY-winning producer Daniel Tashian over nine days at RCA Studio A in Nashville.

Give it a listen below and take note — a 2024 Real Estate tour is also planned for the spring, and it hits Boston’s Royale on April 17.
