ToriTori is no stranger to excellent company. Earlier this year, the Boston-based vocalist, songwriter, and producer unveiled her Pocket Knife EP, a captivating twirl of R&B and pop that first flexed with March single “Places” and welcomed top-shelf collaborators like Latrell James and Notebook P.
The music and vision led to a trio of nominations in the 2023 Boston Music Awards — New Artist of the Year, R&B Artist of the Year, and Album/EP of the Year — and ToriTori shows it all off tonight (November 9) when she holds court at Warehouse XI in Somerville.
Dubbed “ToriTori x The Pearl Handles”, the unique event will feature the artist performing a curated live looping production experience alongside a 12-piece band “with theatrics,” we’re told, on a bill that also features DJ Whysham, Aura, and Zed Kenzo. The show thematically centers on “Sundown,” one of the tracks off Pocket Knife, written about a lack of safety in her environment.
“I have seen and have grown through way too much,” says ToriTori. “I live, love and navigate through this life with much grace for myself. To return and try to find peace in the places that I felt used to nurture me would be pointless. The only time I feel the need to look back is to note the distance I’ve come and to remember the reason I kept moving forward.”
