Editor’s Note: “Boston Thriving” is an ongoing series from Vanyaland highlighting and honoring the national and global success of Boston- and New England-based bands and artists.
Once upon a time, Luke Bar$ considered shelving his song “Die With Pride” before he even had the chance to share it. As the Brockton rapper put together the tracklist for his 2020 project GoodEvil, he was unsure the solo tune was good enough to formally release.
Apparently, Hulu had no such hesitations.
The nearly-scrapped song from Bar$ soundtracks a new episode of Shoresy, the Canadian sitcom and Letterkenny spinoff from New Metric Media. The second season of the show arrived on Hulu and Crave last week (October 27), and Bar$ fans won’t have to dig very deep to find “Die With Pride.” The track appears in the first episode of the new season, titled “Get ’em Focused.”
Bar$ shared the news on social media yesterday (October 31), reflecting on the song’s positive reception. As of print time, it’s the artist’s most popular track on Spotify, with over 375,000 streams.
“I made this song in 2019 and I almost didn’t release it because I didn’t think it was good LOL!” he shares on Instagram. “This song has been used on plenty of global campaigns and now TV shows. Moral of the story don’t block your blessings !”
