Video games are cool, but they’re usually better when played alongside a friend. The same can be said about music, so we’re stoked on a new collaboration that finds British indie survivalists Bombay Bicycle Club teaming up with R&B-funk legend Chaka Khan. The pair today (October 11) unveil “Tekken 2,” an infectious button-pushing chill jam that’ll find a home on Bombay Bicycle Club’s forthcoming album My Big Day, which hits next week (October 20) via AWAL.
For a song named after a fighting video game, there is admittedly very little conflict in “Tekken 2.” And hey, that’s cool.
“It has been a pretty crazy journey, from sitting on my sofa messing around with a keyboard and drum machine to sitting across from Chaka Khan in a fancy LA studio giving her singing directions,” says Bombay Bicycle Club’s Jack Steadman. “Chaka was an absolute superstar and the whole experience was so positive. I think the song reflects that — it’s about coming together, putting any bad thoughts aside and just enjoying the moment.”
Says Khan: “After Jack invited me and then sent the song, I loved it, the ethereal part drew me in. The band has such innovative and passionate energy, truly great musicians. Absolute vibes.”
