Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: Jawbreaker at MGM Music Hall

Sometimes we get to plan out our live music experiences, other times they spring up rather abruptly. Last month, Jawbreaker announced a September tour around since-cancelled appearances at their very own 1234Fest in both Denver and Jersey, and while those shows aren’t happening, the influential punk band stayed true to their corresponding club dates, including tonight’s (September 22) crunch at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston. For a mini-festival feel, Jawbreaker bring Joyce Manor and Grumpster along as support. We think the last time the New York City band was in town, they threw down at nearby House of Blues in 2019, showcasing their final two releases, 1994’s 24 Hour Revenge Therapy and the following year’s Dear You. Check out our full photo gallery from that experience, through the mighty lens of Ben Stas.

JAWBREAKER + JOYCE MANOR + GRUMPSTER :: Friday, September 22 at MGM Music Hall, 2 Lansdowne St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., all ages, $26.50 to 64.50 :: Event page :: Advance tickets

Comedy: Aparna Nancherla at Laugh Boston

From Ian Fidance at Roar! in Springfield to Gary Gulman at The Wilbur in Boston, the commonwealth is packed with live comedy options this weekend. But as this week’s Mic’d Up also notes, Aparna Nancherla is holding court at Laugh Boston tonight and tomorrow (September 22 and 23), bringing her “Unreliable Narrator Book Tour Featuring Mostly Standup” tour to the Seaport: “As something of a voice in all of our heads, Nancherla’s sensibility meshed with an honest and humble humor has curated some of the best batches of comedy we’ve seen. One of the best on the grind, there aren’t many in the game who can claim the same level of thoughtful, well-crafted and unabashed jokes and musings that Nancherla does.”

APARNA NANCHERLA :: Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 6 and 9 p.m., $33 to $61 :: Advance Tickets

Film/TV: ‘The Fugitive’ at Somerville Theatre

There are few films that force us to put down the remote while channel-surfing quite like The Fugitive. The 1993 action thriller, starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones in an iconic game of cat-and-mouse, is engaging from start to finish, and our forever highlight is the scene where U.S. Marshall Samuel Gerard (Jones) sternly replies “I don’t care!” to Richard Kimble’s (Ford) breathless claim that he didn’t kill his wife. Shit, we can watch that scene on repeat until the end of time. The 30th anniversary of The Fugitive comes to The Somerville Theatre this weekend for a quartet of screenings, and it’s probably worth it to get off the couch and relive this scene — and the rest of this fan favorite — on the big screen once again. As the tagline says: “A murdered wife. A one-armed man. An obsessed detective… The chase begins!”

‘THE FUGITIVE’ :: Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24 at The Somerville Theater, 55 Davis Square in Somerville, MA :: Showtimes vary, $10 to $14 :: Event page
