Don’t be soft on the ‘Dicks: The Musical’ trailer

Musical
A24

It’s been seven years since Larry Charles, a key component of the Seinfeld brain trust and the director of Borat and Bruno, released a movie, and even longer since one of his films got a proper theatrical rollout. Well, bitches, he’s back. He’s gonna serve you up a movie called Dicks: The Musical later this fall, which features the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Nathan Lane, Meghan Mullally, and Bowen Yang in a musical about two long-lost brothers trying to get their weirdo parents back together. Notably, this is A24’s first musical, so take that however you will (we recommend with MCT oil, no sugars).

The studio dropped a trailer for the film earlier on Thursday, and it looks like what you’d expect from a Larry Charles musical. Good god. Guy goes from making Bill Maher documentaries to wild-ass musicals featuring Megan Thee Stallion leading guys around on leashes. It tracks, we guess.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis, which, let’s be real, doesn’t sell the movie as well as the title does:

“Two self-obsessed businessmen (writers Aaron Jackson & Josh Sharp) discover they’re long-lost identical twins and come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents, in this riotously funny and depraved musical from comedy icon Larry Charles (‘Seinfeld,’ ‘Borat’) also starring Megan Thee Stallion, Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, and Bowen Yang as God.”

Dicks: The Musical will have its world premiere in early September at TIFF, where it’ll open up the Midnight Madness slate. You won’t have to wait too long to see it after that, though: it’ll open in a theater near you on September 29. All we know is that the A24 merch for this one will either be incredibly funny or just plain irritating. You know how it goes. We call dibs on the collars.
